LTP was founded in 1927 and is one of the oldest consulting firms in the Netherlands. In its over 80 years, LTP has changed tremendously. Below is a summary of the early years and the development toward the current LTP.

Its origin
Professor in the Psychology and the science of Teaching and Education, prof. dr. Jan Waterink founded the Psychotechnic Laboratory of the Vu University in 1927. Aside selection assessment for the corporate world, the psychologists also advised with school and job choices and supported children with learning differences. In addition, therapeutic activities were developed in the 1930’s, especially ‘play therapy’ for children and support was provided to adults with adjustment difficulties.

The development toward the current LTP
After 1945, the psychotechnic laboratory moved more and more into the field of organisational psychology. The other activities were slowly halted and taken over by the VU University and to the Dr. Jan Waterink Foundation for school and job choice, founded in 1962.

The original Psychotechnic Laboratory became independent in 1947 and became the Foundation of Applied Psychology. In 1983, the foundation became shareholder of the B.V. Laboratory for Applied Psychology, in Dutch het Laboratorium voor de Toegepaste Psychologie. LTP thanks its name to the abbreviation of this.

The current LTP is a management consulting firm with a broad range of services that have nothing to do with a laboratory. In recent years, LTP went through rapid growth and expanded services in the area of assessment, personal development and organisation development. Also important are our e-tools: e-HR applications that we often use in consulting programmes.

An organisation history as a novel
Bas Kok, senior consultant at LTP and co-author of the book 'doing assessment, how does it work to your advantage?', wrote a novel about the history of LTP for the 80th anniversary of LTP: 'Het Lab'.
